In this post, Valentina D’ Angela would like to discuss styles which pull most of the hair away or off of the face. Styles that pull hair off of the face can be sculpted around the face and head shape to compliment all types of face shapes. When playing with styles that pull hair off of the face, it is important to pay attention to the silhouette of the head shape. For instance, if someone has a more prominent chin, it may be necessary to create more height and volume near the forehead to create balance in the head shape. These types of styles accentuate jaw lines, and beautiful facial features, such as lips and eyebrows. These types of styles can appear very classic and elegant or creative and loose. We would like to share some of our favorite inspiration photos:
These style are soft and feminine while being formal enough to wear to any special event. These are great examples of perfectly balanced up-styles.
This style is more organic. The photo on the left has less body in the fringe area than the the photo on the right.
This beautiful up-style is perfect for weddings. It is very soft, yet polished enough for formal events.
If you are entertaining the idea of something bold, take inspiration from this glamorous style. This style mimics classic hairstyles and shapes the models face beautifully.
The low ponytail is a fantastic hairstyle because there are so many different versions of this style. It can be soft, dramatic, romantic, fierce, and it’s usually appropriate for shoulder length or longer hair. Hairstyling products make a huge difference in the finish of this style. For sleeker styles, use something to tame frizz and add shine. For styles that have more body in the crown, like the example photo, use a light holding hairspray and rat-tail combs or teasing brushes to achieve extra height.

Low ponytails can be flattering for a variety of face shapes, depending on how the shape of the style is balanced. They are a great option for bridal styling as well. They complement dresses that have a strapless or asymmetric neckline. When wearing a dress with an asymmetric neckline, consider styling the low ponytail more to the side. We usually recommend styling the ponytail off to the opposite side of the strap. This is just one of the many ways to customize this style for almost any occasion.
Dressing up the ponytail is another fun way to tailor this style. The knotted ponytails in the example photos are great options for long hair that doesn’t have much layering. Layers in the hair can make it more difficult to get a smooth appearance on the wrapped hair. Clip-in hair extensions can be used to add intricacy or volume to the style. Another great way to enhance the ponytail, texture! Soft curls can be polished and impart a beautiful, cascading effect.
The left photo is an example of cascading curls in the ponytail.
Never underestimate the potential of this simple style and try it out for a diverse range of events. Happy styling!
Let’s talk curls this summer! Down styles and long luscious locks are becoming increasingly popular for special occasions. Here are a couple of looks that we adore here at Valentina D’ Angela. These are great for everyday styling as well.
Retro waves are a sophisticated way to add timeless beauty to any look. The example photo showcases three ways to wear this kind of style. The hairstyle in the center photo can be dressed up or down, the one on the left is a great casual look, and the hairstyle on the right is appropriate for bridal/special event occasions. You can achieve a casual version of this style yourself by using either a barrel curling iron or a clipless wand. Start sectioning in the back of the head and curl all of the hair in the same direction. Use hair spray and a brush to comb out the curls. This is just one of many ways to achieve this look in a quick, casual manner.
Beach waves are great because they have a natural look to them. They are soft and romantic, which makes them great for beach weddings or casual wear. We love the two photos on the left as examples of relaxed, casual styles. Dressing up the style with a couple of pins and some polishing will make it appropriate for special occasions. The style on the right is a great example of this look. Pinning some of the hair up allows you to add a little bit of volume to the style and dress it up, making it ideal for that tousled, naturally beautiful look. All of these styles can be achieved using a clipless wand. The size of the section of hair and products used will influence the finished look. Some curling wands even offer different tapered designs which also change the look of the finished style.
